Damien Hirst, A Beautiful Reality Check

Ever since I saw this picture, I wanted to know all about Damien Hirt, The Artist!

To our surprise, he's also one of the richest living artists, but it seems like death is what's been keeping the artist “alive”. Death and Science have been a central theme in Hirst's works and he makes sure to send all the right messages...

One of his most expensive pieces, “For The Love Of God” is a human skull encrusted with 8,601 diamonds worth about 10 to 15 million dollars, but ironically he sends the message that mankind chases money and luxury but realistically neither can be taken to the grave. Hirst definitely sent the message that life isn't always pretty but living is art itself!

(Amazing right? BTW! Those are human teeth!)

Diving deeper into his mind and best known piece “The physical Impossibility Of Death In The Mind of Someone Living” I came across an impressive 14-foot tiger shark preserved in a clear display case - worth about 8 million dollars!
Hirst's general purpuse for the piece was to make us feel like we are deep in the sea, with the shark bringing fear and reality into our minds.

To sum it down for you, breaking a record for a single-artist auction, Damien once raised a total of $198 million dollars by selling an entire show! “Beautiful Inside My Head Forever” at Sotheby's sold 218 collectibles. This was the first time an artist sold directly into the public market rather than operating through a dealer. The Auction received up to 21,000 visitors.... It's safe to say Damian and his auction were beyond successful.

The recent prints from this collection sold 7,481 pieces on March, 2021. Part of this new collection includes a set of 8 cherry blossom artworks,  "The Virtues, with HENI". Each piece is titled after the  Eight Virtues Of Bushido (Bushido is a Japanese concept of chivalry. A moral code concerning Samurai attitudes, behavior and lifestyle) which includes:

Justice, Courage, Mercy, Politeness, Honesty, Honor, Loyalty and Control.

#Tofinish this blog, we quote the Artist from his personal Instagram and recent post,

"Its hard for any of us to trust anything in this life but somehow we manage it and we even find love".
